Microsoft continues to invest in the development of its data platform, focusing on artificial intelligence integration, security, and flexibility for businesses of all sizes. SQL Server 2025 is designed to help companies get results from their data faster, plan upgrades and migrations, and effectively modernize on-premises and hybrid platforms. For partners, this means new opportunities for business growth, namely advance planning for upgrades, migrations, and license renewals.

Microsoft announced the availability of SQL Server 2025 at the Microsoft Ignite conference in November. Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners can now purchase SQL Server 2025 in ERC starting January 1, 2026.

Pricing for SQL Server 2025 remains unchanged and is consistent with SQL Server 2022, allowing partners to confidently plan commercial offerings, solution packages, and long-term projects.

At the same time, it is worth noting that SQL Server 2022 will reach End of Sale status on January 21, 2026. Customers will be able to purchase SQL Server 2022 until January 20, 2026, inclusive. Both SQL Server 2022 and SQL Server 2025 will be available in the January price list, ensuring a smooth transition for customers.

It is recommended to review your customer base now, identify opportunities to upgrade SQL Server, and prepare customers for upcoming changes, including the end of sales for SQL Server 2022.

Important! Starting with SQL Server 2025, Microsoft is consolidating all on-premises reporting services within Power BI Report Server (PBIRS). New versions of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) will no longer be released, and PBIRS will become the standard on-premises reporting solution in SQL Server.

Power BI Report Server is available to customers using SQL Server 2025 in Enterprise and Standard editions. For SQL Server Enterprise in versions 2022 and earlier, the right to use Power BI Report Server is granted only if you have Enterprise core licenses with active Software Assurance (SA) and expires when SA expires.
